Professor Dan Knudsen and members of the Critical Food Studies Laboratory, a cooperation between the IU Food Institute and the Department of Geography, engage you in thinking about food security and food justice issues in South Central Indiana including rural food deserts, the emergency food network and federally-funded food assistance programs.

In addition to a brief presentation of lab projects, we will provide a hands-on demonstration of the mathematics behind the calculation of SNAP benefits (aka food stamps) and we’ll ask you to explore the adequacy of current benefit levels for various types of medically necessary diets.
