An LED is a semiconductor device which emits light when electric current flows through it. The color of the light emitted is directly related to the size of the band gap between the semiconductor’s conduction band and the valence band. By changing the temperature of the semiconductor, we can change the size of the band gap, and observe a change in color emitted by the LED.
